WASHINGTON- Today Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) continued his consistent and trusted voice on behalf of Nebraska veterans by supporting several pieces of veterans-related legislation. Congressman Terry voted for the Veterans Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2009, a VA scholarship web site, the Women Veterans Health Care Improvement Act and the Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act of 2009.
“Our veterans make great sacrifices, sometimes with their lives for our freedom and deserve nothing but the best from their government,” said Congressman Lee Terry. “These bills provide critical funding and health benefits to our men and women in uniform. I will continue to fight for our veterans and their families. Thanks to their dedication, courage and commitment we enjoy our free, democratic way of life.”
The Veterans Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2009 (S.407) would increase the amounts paid to veterans for disability compensation at the same cost-of-living adjustment rate as Social Security recipients. The increase would take effect December 1, 2009.
H.R. 1172 would require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs include information on their website of organizations the provides scholarships to veterans and their survivors and a link to each organization. This legislation also requires that the Secretary of Veterans Affairs notify schools of the scholarships.
The Women Veteran Health Care Improvement Act, H.R. 1211 would expand and improve a variety of medical care for female veterans, including care for newborns and services for counseling for those suffering from sexual abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder. The legislation also starts a pilot program of childcare for those receiving care from VA facilities.
The Veterans Health Care Budget Reform and Transparency Act of 2009, H.R. 1016 provides funding for various Department of Veterans Affairs programs and better estimate future healthcare costs of the agency.
