Terry Comments on President Obama’s Healthcare Message

WASHINGTON- Congressman Lee Terry issued the following statement tonight after listening closely to President Barack Obama talk about healthcare reform during his joint session of Congress:

“Tonight President Obama made yet another pitch to Congress to enact legislation to provide healthcare for millions of uninsured Americans, a goal Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle share,” said Congressman Lee Terry. "I accept President Obama's invitation to work with him and will take my healthcare reform proposal to him. I have contacted the White House and I am hopeful President Obama will follow-up on his word and take time to consider my simple and affordable plan for reform."

"Tonight President Obama continued to push for a total government takeover of healthcare with the addition of tax credits. Over the past several weeks I have listened to thousands of my constituents who have expressed great concern about the possibility of government-run healthcare. Healthcare reform should foster greater competition and be affordable without such drastic government intervention."

"I hold President Obama to his word that he will to listen to both Democrats and Republicans to find the best healthcare solution for our country."

Congressman Terry's simple and affordable plan for reform is to allow people to access a plan similar to what Members of Congress now have, that is less costly, protects individuals with pre-existing conditions and uses the competitive, private health insurance plans to provide quality care to millions of Americans. My plan protects the doctor-patient relationship and does not change the Medicare and Medicaid programs currently in place.
