WASHINGTON- Congressman Lee Terry issued the following statement on unemployment reaching 10.2%. This is the highest rate of unemployment since April 1983. Another 190,000 jobs were lost in October. -30-
“American families and small businesses are hurting,” said Congressman Lee Terry. “More than 2.8 million jobs have been lost since the ‘so-called’ stimulus was signed into law. I applaud the bipartisan effort by the House of Representatives yesterday by expanding a tax credit for home buyers, extending unemployment benefits and expanding tax advantages for net operating losses that will help small businesses survive. Congress must continue to work together to adopt policies like these that grow jobs and not eliminate them or chase them to China.”
