Terry's North American Energy Access Act Passes House

WASHINGTON - Today, the House of Representatives passed Congressman Lee Terry's North American Energy Access Act (HR 3548). The North American Energy Access Act is legislation that transfers permitting approval authority over the Keystone XL Pipeline to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The Act enables construction to begin on the non-Nebraskan portion of the pipeline, while an acceptable route through Nebraska is decided upon.

The North American Energy Access Act was a provision embedded in HR 3408, the PIONEERS Act (Protecting Investment in Oil Sha...

Feb 15, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) today released the following statement, responding to the United States Navy's announcement that a Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) - to be built in 2013 - will be named the USS Omaha.  Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus also announced a Littoral Combat Ship would be named after Sioux City, Iowa.

"This is a proud day for the City of Omaha.  To have a Navy Combat Ship named after our great city is an incredible honor.

"Omahans take the Nebraska motto of "The Good Life" seriously, and this has carried over into Omaha's low unemployment, clean streets, beautiful parks, and healthy economy.  It is appropriate that Omaha – a city strongly...

Terry Statement on President's 2013 Budget

OMAHA, NE – Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) today released the following statement, responding to President Obama's 2013 budget proposal.

"Once again, the president has delivered an extravagant and wasteful budget that Congress will never agree to. Nobody in their right mind would approve of $1.5 trillion in tax hikes – in the middle of a recession. Growing the Federal Government and putting off spending cuts is incredibly irresponsible, and the House of Representatives will not let this stand.

"You can call this Administration many things, but certainly not inconsistent. ...

Terry Statement on White House's Contraceptive Coverage Announcement

Feb 10, 2012

Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) today released the following statement, responding to the President’s announcement that religious employers will no longer be required to offer free contraceptive coverage to workers – as required to by a provision in the 2010 healthcare legislation.

“Forcing faith-based employers like Catholic universities, hospitals, and charities – to pay for abortion-triggering drugs and contraception - services that they consider immoral, was a horrible misstep.  It was an attack on the free exercise of religion, guaranteed to Americans by the U.S. Constitution, and a misguided effort to expand the Federal Government’s powers even further.  But this goes beyond church-affiliated hospitals and charities – small business owners who hav...

Our Nation's Budget

"Yesterday, Mr. Obama's chief economic adviser, Gene Sperling, reported that the President wants a new "global minimum tax." Mr. Sperling said the new tax is necessary "so that people have the assurance that nobody is escaping doing their fair share as part of a race to the bottom or having our tax code actually subsidize and facilitate people moving their funds to tax havens." *Wall Street Journal, February 15th, 2012

In February, President Obama released his Fiscal Year 2013 budget. Again, this document is short on spending reductions and long on raising taxes on American families. He proposes adding over $1.3 Trillion to our national debt, and increasing taxes by close to $2 Trillion. This means that over the last four years, these four budgets would have added over $6 Trillion to our national debt. This is not the right way to bring spending under control and returning fiscal sanity to our nation.

Our country is in the middle of an economic crisis and the President's budget does nothing to help solve this problem. In fact, it may even lead to more problems down the road. Growing the federal government, adding to our national debt, refusing to cut spending and increasing taxes on the American people, is irresponsible and backwards. We need to give small businesses and families the opportunity to flourish, not to be burdened with high taxes. I can assure you that I will fight for spending cuts so our country can get back on track.
