Terry Statement on President’s Proposal to Raise Taxes PDF Print

WASHINGTON, DC –Congressman Lee Terry (R-NE) issued the following statement in response to the President announcing a proposal to temporarily extend the current tax rates for one year for people who earn less than $250,000 per year but allow the tax rates to increase for all other Americans at the end of 2012:

"The President proposed brief temporary relief for some individuals but what I propose is for the President to work with Congress to make real permanent tax relief for American families and small businesses. It is imperative that we encourage producers to keep production in the U.S. so more people can go back to work. It is important to allow individuals and families to keep more of their hard-earned money. It is time for comprehensive tax reform.

"We can no longer play political games with our economy. No one wins when Congress cannot work together and make tough decisions about curbing spending, creating jobs and giving tax relief to everyone. Let's put away the slogans and make a real difference in every American's life."
